ChatGPT enters new era with anticipated video feature

ChatGPT is set to acquire video capabilities, as revealed by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

While conversing with Bill Gates on the Unconfuse Me podcast, Altman discussed the future of ChatGPT and the upcoming update, GPT-5.

He mentioned that the latest iteration of the highly praised language model, which fuels ChatGPT, will be"fully multimodal with speech, image, code, and video support."

The podcast highlighted the most intriguing aspect, which is the video capabilities mentioned earlier, in addition to the confirmation of the GPT-5 release.

While the existing ChatGPT version already handles images and audio, the addition of video support will significantly broaden the scope of generative AI capabilities.

The possible applications of an AI system such as ChatGPT, capable of conducting video analysis, have the potential to enhance reliability and generate a chatbot with contextual awareness.

However, the utilization of this updated version raises concerns about potential misuse, particularly regarding privacy.

OpenAI, with a less-than-ideal track record in privacy matters, faces a lawsuit filed in June alleging that the models were trained using "stolen" data.

Users can expect GPT-5 to drop sometime this year, according to Altman.

Altman has expressed a strong desire to continually enhance ChatGPT's capabilities. The rapid pace of these advancements is speculated to have played a role in Altman's temporary removal as CEO by the nonprofit board of directors at OpenAI.

Concerns about the ethical challenges and possible extensive consequences of these technologies were cited as reasons for the brief ousting.

Microsoft has infused billions into OpenAI, incorporating its models into the Copilot product. This may offer insight into why Altman chose this podcast as the platform to unveil news.

Altman conveyed during his conversation with Gates that the current capabilities of ChatGPT represent the lowest level of intelligence these models will exhibit.

He further explained that the objective with GPT-5 is to enhance reasoning abilities and reliability, especially addressing the infamous "hallucinations" where the chatbot confidently asserts false statements.

The CEO said on the podcast, "People want very different things out of GPT-4," adding, "We’ll make all that possible, and then also the ability to have it use your own data."

He emphasized that a vital aspect of advancing his company's products involves gaining a profound understanding of individual details, encompassing elements such as emails and calendars.
