One dead and three injured after road rage stabbing spree in Virginia

A fatal road rage incident that shook Virginia on Sunday has taken a shocking turn as the suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old Foreign Service Officer.

The Virginia State Police named Jared Llamado as the man responsible for a series of stabbings that claimed the life of 39-year-old Michele Adams and Llamado’s own dog.

The tragedy, which occurred on Interstate 495, also left three other women, aged 36, 37, and 40, fighting for their lives with serious injuries.

According to authorities, the violence erupted following a vehicle crash. When a state trooper arrived at the scene at approximately 1:20pm, he was immediately "confronted by a male suspect carrying a knife," prompting the officer to shoot in self-defence. Llamado later died in the hospital.

A US State Department spokesperson confirmed his employment to PEOPLE, stating: “We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy,” while noting they are aware of the "tragic incident that involved a Foreign Service Officer."

Preliminary findings suggest Llamado did not know his victims. Police believe he acted alone and have ruled out terrorism.

The trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues into what sparked such a horrific outburst from a government official.

It is a chilling reminder of how quickly a traffic dispute can escalate into a senseless loss of life, leaving a community and a federal department searching for answers. The Virginia State Police remain the lead agency on the case.
