Marlon Wayans vows to 'cancel cancel culture' in Scary Movie 6
Marlon Wayans wants to return to the classic comedy style of the early 2000s
Marlon Wayans is officially stepping back into the oversized shoes of Shorty Meeks for Scary Movie 6, and he has a clear mission for the legendary franchise.
In a candid discussion about the upcoming horror parody, Wayans described the film as a “multi-generational” experience designed to restore a lost era of cinema.
“What we’re trying to do is bring back laughter,” Wayans told Entertainment Weekly. “This is about bringing back comedy the way it used to be. And I think the only way to do it is you have to cancel the cancel culture.”
The latest instalment promises to revive the fearless, boundary-pushing spirit that made the original films global hits. According to Wayans, no subject is off-limits in this new chapter.
“We’re gonna do what we always do. We’re gonna make fun of everybody because we’re equal opportunity offenders,” he explained. He credits this bold approach to his family’s unique upbringing and perspective.
“We have a recipe, we have a formula that you can’t mimic or copy. You could try, but it’s very specific. It’s how we grew up, and it’s how we see the world.
It’s the household we were raised in with the sense of humor that we all were governed with, that we inherited from our mother.”
Scheduled to hit cinemas on 5 June, the film reunites a massive cast including Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall.
With the Wayans brothers back at the helm of the script, the goal is to be "fearless" while encouraging audiences to simply laugh at themselves again.
