Apple may let AI chatbots integrate with Siri

The iOS 27 update for Apple is set to enable users to select the AI chatbot they wish to connect with Siri.

This information is based on a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, noting that third-party chatbots available for download from the App Store, such as Google's Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude, will be equipped to provide answers for Siri — much like Siri's existing capability to operate with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Dubbed “Extensions,” the innovative system will allow users to turn on or off the chatbots they wish to integrate with Siri across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, according to Bloomberg.

These upcoming features will extend support to the standalone app Apple supposedly plans to release featuring its AI-enhanced Siri, which is intended to perform tasks on users' behalf across different apps.

After experiencing numerous setbacks, Apple announced in January its collaboration with Google to revamp Siri.

The Information shared this week that this partnership also provisions Apple to incorporate Gemini to develop compact AI models.

Apple is anticipated to unveil the latest iterations of its software at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) commencing on June 8.
