Newly released court documents have revealed an unexpected moment of cooperation between tech rivals Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, showing the Meta chief offering support for Musk’s government efficiency initiative.

The messages, disclosed as part of Musk’s ongoing legal battle involving OpenAI, date back to February 3, 2025.

At the time, Musk was spearheading efforts tied to the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or “DOGE,” aimed at reducing government spending and operations.

In one text, Zuckerberg acknowledged the initiative’s progress and offered assistance, writing that Meta had teams ready to remove content that could dox or threaten individuals involved in the project.

“Looks like DOGE is making progress,” Zuckerberg wrote, adding that his teams were on alert to take down harmful content and offering further help if needed.

Musk responded positively with a heart emoji before raising a separate idea — inviting Zuckerberg to join a potential bid for OpenAI alongside other investors.

Zuckerberg replied that the matter should be discussed further over the phone. However, according to previously released filings, he ultimately did not participate in any such bid.

The exchange marks a notable shift in tone between the two tech leaders, whose relationship has previously been marked by public tensions — including Musk’s past challenge to Zuckerberg for a cage fight.

The texts also provide a rare glimpse into behind-the-scenes communication among Silicon Valley’s most influential figures, particularly as competition intensifies in artificial intelligence and platform governance.
