YouTube introduces option to disable Shorts

YouTube now allows you to set a zero-minute time limit on Shorts, removing them from your app on both Android and iOS.

This feature updates YouTube's previously announced Shorts timer option, which used to have a minimum setting of 15 minutes.

The feature was expanded in January to enable parents to manage how long kids can watch Shorts, with the zero-minute option promised as “coming soon.”

According to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, this zero-minute setting is “now available for all parents, with a rollout to everyone underway,” including individuals using regular adult accounts.

No matter your age, it's a useful feature for those wanting to cut down on screen time.

Once you reach your limit, the Shorts tab won't display any more videos, just an alert saying you've “hit your Shorts feed limit.”

Our tests indicate that reaching the limit also removes Shorts from the Home screen, so setting the timer to zero offers the possibility to completely avoid them.

To enable this timer, head to the YouTube app settings, choose “time management,” turn on the Shorts feed limit, and then select your desired time.
