YouTube mobile app finally adds timestamp sharing for videos
YouTube has updated its mobile app, impacting video sharing
YouTube is rolling out a new mobile feature that could change how users share videos, making it easier to direct others to specific moments within a clip.
The update introduces the ability to share a video starting from a chosen timestamp directly within the app.
This means users can now guide viewers to a particular scene or highlight without needing to send the full video and explain where to skip ahead.
The feature is designed to streamline sharing, especially for mobile users who frequently exchange links on messaging platforms.
However, the change comes with a notable trade-off. The new timestamp-sharing option will replace YouTube’s existing Clips feature, which allowed users to create short, shareable segments from videos.
Unlike the Clips tool, the updated functionality will not support selecting an end time or adding custom descriptions to shared content.
YouTube confirmed that previously created Clips will remain accessible and viewable.
But moving forward, users will no longer be able to create new clipped segments within the app.
In explaining the shift, YouTube acknowledged that clipping has been a valuable way for creators to reach new audiences.
At the same time, the company pointed out that a range of third-party tools already offer more advanced clipping features, alongside official creator-led initiatives across various platforms.
The Clips feature was first introduced in 2021, and this latest update signals YouTube’s move toward a simpler, more streamlined sharing experience on mobile devices.
