Eight children lost their lives in a Louisiana mass shooting.
Responding promptly, authorities arrived at the scene of the shooting, which occurred shortly after 6am local time in Shreveport on Sunday (April 19).
They discovered that 10 individuals had been shot in total, according to the report from the Shreveport Police Department (SPD).
During a press briefing, police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon indicated that the crime scene covered a considerable area and included two homes.
He further mentioned that the event seemed to have a domestic basis rather than being a random act.
Bordelon confirmed that at least 10 individuals were struck by gunfire, eight of whom have passed away.
All the victims were young, with ages ranging from about 1 to 14 years old, as noted by the SPD spokesperson.
As Bordelon reported, the suspected assailant fled the scene by stealing a car, which led to a pursuit by law enforcement.
The police chase continued into Bossier Parish, where officers ultimately shot and killed the suspect.
“We have reason to believe he was the sole gunman at these locations,” Bordelon stated.
The names of both the suspect and the victims have yet to be disclosed.
Bordelon mentioned that investigators suspect that some of the young victims were related to the shooter. The investigation into this tragic event is still progressing.
