GoPro's Mission cameras priced beyond weekend athletes

GoPro has set the price of its latest Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro cameras at $599.99 and $699.99, respectively.

There's a $100 discount on each if you join their platform — an appealing offer for professional filmmakers, though it's a tougher proposition for casual enthusiasts.

You can pre-order the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro now. By doing so, you’ll receive the $100 Point-and-Shoot Grip accessory at no cost before their official release on May 28.

The Mission 1 Pro ILS, equipped with a changeable mount for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses and adapters, will follow in Q3 for $699.99, or just $599.99 if you’re subscribed to GoPro.

GoPro’s new accessories include the Wireless Mic System, priced at $159.99, and the Media Mod, which includes a built-in multi-pattern microphone and enhanced I/O capabilities, priced at $149.99. The new 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery is available for $34.99.

GoPro promotes its Mission series as being crafted with a 50MP 1-inch sensor and their latest GP3 processor, claiming these are the “world’s smallest, lightest, and toughest high-definition, high frame rate cinematic camera systems.”

This makes the advanced action cameras costly and a bit excessive for capturing a thrilling bike ride down the mountain or a weekend of snowboarding.

For most hobbyist creators, purchasing an older, heavily discounted GoPro Hero 13 or Hero 12 would be more sensible and budget-friendly.

Alternatively, consider a DJI Osmo Action 6, which is currently available for under $400, while Insta360’s advanced X5 is priced around $550.
