Microsoft confirms widespread Outlook outage affecting users in UK and US
Reports indicate majority of affected customers face significant login obstacles
Microsoft’s primary email application, Outlook, was struck by a significant widespread outage on Monday, leaving hundreds of users unable to access their accounts.
According to the internet monitoring service Downdetector, the disruptions began shortly before 10:00 am, impacting users across both the United Kingdom and the United States.
Reports indicate that over 800 individuals in the UK and approximately 400 in the US encountered immediate difficulties, with 64 per cent of the reported issues specifically linked to the login process.
The technology giant formally acknowledged the disruption affecting both Outlook and Hotmail services via its official Service Health page.
Microsoft confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine why users are struggling to connect through various platforms.
"Our investigation indicates client sign-in scenarios may be contributing to the reported behaviour, and we're focused on validating interactions across service components to identify next steps," the company stated in a formal update.
Technicians are currently exploring the possibility that communication failures between Microsoft servers and third-party email clients are the root cause of the failure.
Company officials have cautioned users that traditional troubleshooting or local fixes are unlikely to prove successful until the server-side complications are fully rectified.
The technical team has committed to providing continuous updates as they work toward a resolution. This incident follows a series of routine infrastructure updates intended to improve service stability.
Microsoft previously faced similar connectivity challenges during high-traffic periods earlier this year, prompting calls for more robust server redundancy.
