Man faces felony charges following violent road rage stabbing incident
Chad L. Norton allegedly stabbed another driver during a dispute over indicators
Chad L. Norton, 28, is facing multiple felony charges in Wisconsin following a road rage incident on 23 April that left another motorist with significant stab wounds.
According to court records reviewed by PEOPLE, Norton has been charged with aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Both charges include modifiers for the use of a dangerous weapon. The confrontation reportedly began near North Beach at approximately 7 p.m. when Norton allegedly cut off the victim and shouted: “Don't you know how to use your f---ing turn signal!”
The dispute escalated near 12th Street and Washington Avenue after the victim pulled alongside Norton's vehicle. Witnesses and records indicate that Norton allegedly threatened: “I'm going to beat your ass.”
After the victim challenged him to “hop out,” both men exited their cars for a brief altercation lasting seven seconds.
Although the victim initially thought he was only trading punches, he discovered multiple lacerations to his chest and arm upon returning to his car. He subsequently drove himself to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where he received stitches for his injuries.
Investigators later reviewed video footage that appeared to show Norton making stabbing motions. During police questioning, Norton claimed he did not remember using a knife but admitted he typically carries a folding tool.
At his arraignment on 29 April, he entered a not guilty plea. A status conference is currently scheduled for 2 June, with a cash bond set at $5,000. If convicted of the primary battery charge, Norton could face more than 15 years in prison.
