Kentucky woman faces attempted murder charges after stabbing at Goodwill store

A thirty-year-old Kentucky woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a violent confrontation at a Goodwill store in Murray.

Madison Hinchey was taken into custody at approximately 1:36pm. local time on 21 April 2026, after allegedly chasing and stabbing a fellow shopper.

According to a press release from the Murray Police Department, officers arriving at the North 12th Street location discovered employees "wrestling" with the suspect in an attempt to restrain her.

Investigators allege that Hinchey chased an unidentified woman to the store's loading dock area, where she proceeded to stab and bite her.

A store employee who attempted to de-escalate the situation was also reportedly assaulted with a snow shovel. "Upon arrival, officers located two victims," the police statement confirmed.

"One individual had sustained a stab wound, while a second victim had been assaulted with a shovel." The stabbing victim, who suffered a wound to the chest, was subsequently airlifted to a regional medical facility for emergency treatment.

When Hinchey was arrested, she allegedly made a chilling remark to officers, stating that the victim "got what she came for."

She has since been booked into the Calloway County Jail, facing charges of attempted murder, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault.

While Hinchey remains in custody, the local community has expressed shock over the incident. The Murray Police Department continues to investigate the motives behind the attack, as the suspect awaits her initial court appearance and further legal proceedings regarding the serious allegations.
