Your fridge is evolving into an AI-assisted personal shopping aide.

Samsung is pioneering a suite of AI enhancements that recognize voices, refresh shopping lists, and monitor ingredient availability.

The vision is to transform futuristic movie ideas into reality, enabling interaction with household devices.

The upcoming wave of devices this year introduces software to identify foods in your refrigerator, suggest meal ideas based on contents, and append missing items to your Instacart shopping lists.

Named Vision AI, the system logs the items in your fridge to save you the trouble of manual inventory checks, according to Michael McDermott, Samsung's executive VP of consumer electronics.

The advanced refrigerator can pinpoint individual items, like a soda can, using a sophisticated language model, and display this data on a companion app, allowing you to review stock levels while shopping.

The software update for the AI-enabled Samsung fridge, the Bespoke AI Family Hub, was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show this year.

Several of its AI functions are powered by Google Gemini. Google didn't provide feedback regarding this.

These innovative features come with a price tag. The AI-assisted fridge starts at $2,799, and the smart range is priced from $1,349.

The more sophisticated AI capabilities, such as enhanced food detection, are slated for a May release.

Samsung's AI-enhanced oven features a camera to identify the dishes inside and recommend optimal cooking times. It also allows recording, catering to food influencers keen on detailed cooking footage.

Competitors such as LG are integrating AI into their appliances. LG indicated that its AI devices are designed to simplify everyday tasks by adapting to user habits and automating essential functions.

Samsung also employs its proprietary virtual assistant, Bixby, within appliances. It aims to customise interactions by recognizing individual users, McDermott shared.

Voice ID, for instance, could tailor calendars and alerts to suit the speaker.

The ultimate aim is for technology to seamlessly blend into life, enhancing daily experiences without being intrusive, McDermott explained.
