Arizona stabbing case: Man accused of attacking sleeping mother in neck
The victim survived after emergency surgery and is recovering
A 25-year-old Arizona man has been arrested after allegedly carrying out what prosecutors described as an “unprovoked attack” in which he stabbed his sleeping mother in their shared home, authorities said.
George Randall was taken into custody on Friday, May 15, after officers with the Chandler Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at a residence in Chandler, Arizona, around 4:30 a.m. local time.
According to police, the victim, Randall’s mother, was transported to a nearby hospital following the attack. She underwent emergency surgery after suffering serious injuries to her neck and is now recovering.
During Randall’s initial court appearance, a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office alleged that he stabbed his mother while she was asleep on a couch, describing the incident as a deliberate act.
The prosecutor further claimed Randall had been “thinking about killing his mother for weeks” and intentionally chose a vulnerable location to inflict maximum harm.
Authorities said the attack occurred inside the family home, where Randall allegedly struck his mother in the side of the neck while she was sleeping, causing severe blood loss before she lost consciousness.
Following the hearing, the court set a $1 million cash-only bond, citing concerns raised by prosecutors regarding the defendant’s mental health and potential risk to others.
Officials described the case as an ongoing investigation, while emphasizing that the allegations point to a highly dangerous and premeditated act.
Randall is expected to return to court later this month as the legal process continues.
