Woman fatally shoots boyfriend between eyes and neck after he dares her, sheriff reports

A Texas woman is in custody after allegedly shooting her live-in boyfriend between the eyes, according to law enforcement in the Lone Star State.

Alanna Dawn Bilbo, 33, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury to a person she is in a relationship with, based on legal documents accessed by Law&Crime.

The incident in question took place on Monday night at a home on County Road 2813 in Alto, a small town nestled in the Piney Woods region, approximately 26 miles from Nacogdoches.

Around 7pm, deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene following reports of a shooting, as stated in a probable cause affidavit.

Inside, detectives interviewed Bilbo after reading her Miranda rights. The defendant claimed she was engaged in "a verbal altercation" with her "live-in boyfriend" about "their relationship," officials reported.

Subsequently, the argument escalated into provocation and nearly instant violence, as outlined in the legal document.

"Alanna was positioned in the doorway of their home and [the boyfriend] was outside by the steps, shouting at her to shoot him, leading to her firing a .22 caliber revolver at him between the eyes," the probable cause document reads.

Following the shot between the eyes, the man reportedly turned to the left, clutching his face, while Bilbo allegedly "fired another shot, hitting him at the back of the neck," explained the sheriff's office.

On Tuesday, Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson stated that the shooting was initially reported as an accident, as covered by Jacksonville, Texas-based NBC affiliate KETK.

Afterward, the victim was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, where he was reported to be in stable condition as of Tuesday, as per the sheriff.

The sheriff informed KETK that both the defendant and her boyfriend were allegedly under the influence of substances at the time of the shooting.

Bilbo remains held in the Cherokee County Jail, with bail set at $150,000. A magistrate judge has issued a protective order that forbids the defendant from contacting her boyfriend for three months and bars her from having a firearm, as per the records.
