Fans say Victoria's Secret model Izabel Goulart looked unrecognisable on the Cannes red carpet

Victoria's Secret model Izabel Goulart set tongues wagging when she appeared on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, with fans suggesting the Brazilian beauty looked "unrecognisable."

The 41-year-old, who rose to prominence as one of the lingerie brand's famous Angels in 2005, was spotted at the celebrated festival on the French Riviera alongside her fiancé, footballer Kevin Trapp.

A showstopping red carpet look

Goulart made a commanding entrance on the red carpet in a strapless, sequined bustier gown that hugged her figure. However, it was her face rather than her outfit that dominated conversation online, with many fans remarking that her skin appeared "a lot tighter and firmer" than before.

Several observers admitted they almost "didn't recognise her at first," with reactions ranging from surprise to concern.

"I'm shocked at how Izabel Goulart has turned into a whole different person," one social media user wrote. A second expressed worry, writing: "She's way skinnier now and her eye is super pulled…" A third added: "I'm confused! What happened to her face? Why does she look SO different? Like it's not even her."

The precise cause of her changed appearance has not been confirmed. It is worth noting, however, that Goulart was wearing her hair in a tight ponytail at the event, which could have pulled the skin back slightly and contributed to the look that sparked such debate.

Her stance on cosmetic procedures

Goulart has never spoken publicly about undergoing cosmetic surgery. She does, however, serve as a global ambassador for Merz Aesthetics, a company that offers injectable treatments including fillers.

Whilst she has not disclosed which specific treatments she may have had, she did once reveal that she has something done either "once a year" or "once every six months."

A career spanning two decades

Goulart made her debut as a Victoria's Secret Angel at the age of 21 and has since built an impressive career working with some of the world's leading fashion houses, including Chanel, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Roberto Cavalli. She has also appeared in Sports Illustrated, celebrated for her athletic physique.

The model frequently shares her fitness routines with fans online, including yoga sessions she undertakes with Trapp.

Speaking previously to Elle about her approach to staying in shape, she said: "I am a model professionally but I'm also an athlete, a friend, a daughter, a sister and many other things. Training has helped me overcome stress and fears to be successful in other aspects of my life."

On the subject of her diet, she added: "I travel a lot, but when I'm home, I cook every day. In the mornings, I'll make juices with fruits, vegetables and protein."
