Prince William says he is 'so proud' of Kate's return to duties after cancer diagnosis

Prince William has spoken with evident pride about his wife Kate's return to royal duties following her cancer diagnosis, describing her as "absolutely stunning" during a rare and candid radio interview.

William joins Heart FM live from the Isles of Scilly

The Prince of Wales joined presenters Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart FM for a special live broadcast recorded from a café on the Isles of Scilly, during which he made unusually personal remarks about the Princess of Wales and her recovery.

Speaking warmly about Kate's return to public life, the father of three said he was "so proud," adding: "She's an amazing mum, an amazing wife and literally our family couldn't cope without her, so she's been brilliant."

Reflecting on Kate's first trip abroad since diagnosis

Presenter Jamie Theakston raised the subject of Kate's recent first overseas engagement since her cancer diagnosis, saying: "It must've been a difficult time back then with the kids and seeing her fulfil those duties must've made you very happy."

William replied: "Yep, very much so. She's been absolutely stunning, she really has."

When asked whether further international trips were being planned, the Prince of Wales offered a measured but optimistic response.

"She's sort of edging herself back into doing more of those trips," he said, though he was careful to acknowledge the physical demands such visits place upon her, noting they can "take it out of you."

"We have to balance that and make sure she's okay and rested but she's in good form," William added.

Kate's cancer journey and recovery

The Princess of Wales publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in 2024 and announced she had entered remission in January of last year, since which time she has been gradually resuming her official programme of engagements.

Last week, Kate travelled to Italy — her first official trip abroad since her diagnosis and her first overseas engagement in three and a half years.
