Roku launches its biggest home screen redesign in over a decade

Roku, which recently surpassed 100 million streaming households, has unveiled a major overhaul of its platform — introducing a new personalised home screen it describes as more dynamic and smarter than anything it has offered before.

The update marks the first significant redesign of the Roku Home Screen in more than a decade, featuring "more relevant recommendations and faster pathways to content, guided by deep behavioral insights and viewer input," according to the company.

A decade in the making

Roku chief executive and founder Anthony Wood explained the thinking behind the overhaul: "When we set out to rethink the Home Screen, we knew we should listen to the people who use it every day. So we talked to the viewers, we tested extensively, and we pushed until the design and the data lined up for a meaningful update."

He added: "Now, our new Home Screen puts entertainment at the centre of everything, while staying true to Roku's simple, intuitive roots. More than 100 million households will feel the difference the moment they turn on their TV — and it opens up a better, more powerful experience for our partners as well."

The move is backed by consumer data. A recent Roku poll found that 82 per cent of streaming subscribers agreed they would love it if the show they wanted to watch appeared on their home screen the moment they switched on their television.

What the new home screen offers

The redesigned experience introduces a range of new features, including Quick Access for the most frequently used apps, an intelligence-driven and expanded content-first Top Picks for You section, and new curated genre and mood-based hubs called Destinations.

Users will also be able to browse and discover content across all their subscriptions in one place, alongside expanded search capabilities and a streamlined, collapsible menu.

Additional features include elevated shortcuts for everyday actions such as Save List and Continued Watching, a dynamic row called Your Daily Scoop offering a curated digest of breakout shows and cultural trends, and a Roku City tile that takes users to an interactive version of the platform's popular screensaver.

Rollout details

The new home screen is beginning to roll out today across all Roku TVs and streaming devices in the United States, with an international expansion planned for the coming months.
