Two-time Grammy winner Peabo Bryson, aged 75, has passed away following a stroke
Renowned musician Peabo Bryson has passed away at 75. The iconic singer, honoured with two Grammy Awards, was celebrated for his performances on Disney hits such as Beauty and the Beast with Celine Dion and the much-loved A Whole New World from Aladdin.
The R&B star breathed his last on Tuesday, surrounded by his family, just a few days after experiencing a stroke.
His family released a moving statement saying, “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit.
“For more than five decades, Peabo’s extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments.
“His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration.”
The heartfelt tribute continued, “His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
Peabo encountered several health scares in recent times, like a heart attack in 2019 from which he successfully recovered.
Peabo Bryson's career:
The South Carolina-born artist’s illustrious career began in the 70s with the R&B ensemble Moses Dillard and the Tex-Town Display.
His exceptional talent soon saw him embark on a solo career after securing a contract with Bang Records in Atlanta.
His collaborative spirit, honed during his band days, became a defining trait of his music career.
He recorded with Capitol, Elektra, and Columbia Records, establishing himself as a premier duet artist.
His standout partnerships were on Disney songs with Dion and Regina Belle on the Aladdin soundtrack.
He was awarded Grammys for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for his Disney songs in 1992 and 1994.
Peabo also shone in collaborations with artists like Roberta Flack and Natalie Cole.
With Flack, he delivered Tonight, I Celebrate My Love, a quintessential love song of the 80s.
Additionally, he achieved solo success with chart-toppers like Show & Tell and Can You Stop the Rain.
