Hailee Steinfeld shares sweet details of her first wedding anniversary with Josh Allen

Hailee Steinfeld has offered a rare and personal glimpse into how she and her husband, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, celebrated their first wedding anniversary — and it was a quietly meaningful evening centred entirely on family.

A cosy night in

The Sinners star, who wed Allen in an intimate ceremony in Santa Barbara, marked the occasion by first sharing wedding photographs on her Instagram account on Sunday, captioning the post: "Oh to relive this day over and over…"

Three days later, she went into greater detail in a Substack post titled "The first anniversary is paper — MORE BS," painting a tender picture of how the milestone was spent.

"On May 31st 2025, Josh and I were reading our vows in front of our closest friends and family, on what was, at that point, the best day of our lives. On May 31st 2026, we were sitting on the couch watching our wedding video with our daughter!" Hailee wrote.

Happy tears and a home dinner

Rather than a lavish night out, Steinfeld kept the evening low-key and personal. She got ready with "a little mascara and a pair of jeans" for a private dinner at home, with their newborn daughter joining them for the occasion.

"As we were getting ready for bed that night, I looked at my slightly glossy eyes in the mirror and realized I was crying happy tears," she wrote.

After dinner, the couple revisited cherished memories together. "We took the occasion to rewatch our wedding video and went back through our camera rolls to find the first photos we ever took together," she shared, adding that the two talked at length about their favourite dates and how dramatically life had shifted in the space of a year.

Reflective questions and meaningful conversation

The couple also set aside time to ask each other thoughtful questions, including "What's a dream you have for our relationship that you haven't told me yet?" and "What's something we've done together this year that you're proud of?"

Steinfeld reflected on the value she places in marking life's milestones with intention. "I'm a big fan of taking a moment — be it a birthday, an anniversary, or a new year — to reflect on how much life can change in a relatively short amount of time," she wrote.

Paper gifts for a paper anniversary

In keeping with the tradition of anniversary gifts by year, the couple exchanged paper-themed presents to honour the symbolism of their first year together.

"The first anniversary is paper, symbolizing a blank slate, new beginnings. So to celebrate, we gave each other small paper gifts," Hailee explained.

Steinfeld gifted Allen custom playing cards featuring a photograph from their wedding, whilst Allen gave her their favourite wedding photo in frames to display around their home.

Hailee brought the post to a close on a warm note. "We also wrote each other special anniversary cards, and even though I'm constantly writing him notes (my love language), it felt important to sit down and put pen to paper on our anniversary — especially given the paper theme," she concluded.
