Madonna is said to be in secret talks about staging a show in the United Kingdom to mark the release of her new album, with sources suggesting she hopes to replicate the excitement she generated in New York earlier this week.
The 67-year-old, whose latest record Confessions II is due out on 3 July, delighted an estimated 50,000 fans with a surprise performance in Times Square and is keen to bring a similar moment to UK audiences in the near future.
Source reveals Madonna's live show plans
A source close to the star told The Sun: "Performing is everything to Madonna and she is going all out to make sure this era is one of her greatest." The insider added: "Her last run of shows were all about her legacy, but now she's reinvigorated to be an innovator."
The source also offered some clarity on the scale of what is being planned. "She's currently mulling over some live show options for a handful of dates. A full-scale world tour is not in the works," they said.
Madonna last took to the stage in London at the O2 Arena in October 2023 as part of her 81-date Celebration Tour.
Times Square debut marks a new era
The New York performance, staged in partnership with LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr, marked the first time Madonna had performed new material from Confessions II live. She debuted her brand new single Love Sensation during the show, which was subsequently released on streaming platforms just hours later.
In addition to the new track, she treated the crowd to I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love — her duet with Sabrina Carpenter — alongside a selection of hits from Confessions on a Dance Floor, including Hung Up, Get Together, and I Love New York, all of which sent fans into a frenzy.
Building momentum since April
Love Sensation had already been generating considerable anticipation since April, when Madonna made a surprise appearance at a West Hollywood club and producer Stuart Price offered a preview of the track during his DJ set.
The early chart returns for her new material are also encouraging. I Feel So Free has reached number one on Billboard's Dance Airplay Chart, whilst Bring Your Love has just topped the UK Club Chart.
