Jonathon Cooper has pleaded not guilty after being charged in connection with a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend earlier this month, according to multiple reports.
The 28-year-old Denver Broncos linebacker was arrested on June 4 in Parker, Colorado, following what authorities described as a “domestic incident.”
He has since been released on a personal recognizance bond.
Court records indicate Cooper entered his plea on Monday, June 8, as legal proceedings move toward a scheduled jury trial later this summer.
According to reports from ESPN and The Denver Post, Cooper is facing a charge of criminal mischief in a case classified as domestic violence.
His girlfriend was also reportedly arrested on separate misdemeanor domestic violence and criminal mischief charges.
Authorities say the incident stemmed from an argument that escalated over damaged cellphones.
Both parties provided conflicting accounts of what occurred, according to police documents cited in reports.
Cooper reportedly told investigators that his girlfriend confronted him over cheating allegations and threw his phone, prompting a physical struggle as he attempted to retrieve it.
He also described grabbing her arm and said he bit the phone during the altercation.
His girlfriend, identified in reports as Jade Fiegen, alleged that Cooper grabbed her by the neck, pushed her against a wall, and threw her to the ground multiple times.
Police reportedly noted visible marks on her arm, though accounts differ on how they occurred.
A motions hearing in the case is scheduled for July 6, with a jury trial set for July 22, according to ESPN.
Cooper is also expected to attend the Broncos’ training camp during the same month.
Following his arrest, Cooper shared a message on social media referencing a Bible verse about anger, later adding an apology to his family, friends, and community, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.
The case remains ongoing as both sides prepare for upcoming court proceedings.
