Eve Hewson shares surreal encounter with Barack Obama during new sci-fi movie shoot
The actress recalled being shocked when Obama visited the set of her new sci-fi thriller
Eve Hewson has shared a “crazy” behind-the-scenes story from the set of her upcoming sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, revealing an unexpected visit from former U.S. President Barack Obama that left her with an unusual theory about Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 34-year-old actress said she was stunned when Obama appeared on set to watch filming for the film, which also stars Colin Firth, Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, and Colman Domingo.
Hewson, daughter of U2 frontman Bono, said Obama’s visit during a film centered on government conspiracies and extraterrestrial life immediately sparked her imagination.
“I was very curious that he came to the set with the subject matter,” she said, adding that she began wondering whether Spielberg and Obama might share a deeper fascination with the topic.
“Then I thought, ‘Maybe they are friends because they bond over a mutual interest,’” Hewson joked.
“And then I saw a video where Obama was like, ‘Yeah, aliens are real.’ So my theory is that they’re in this little, cute, secret alien society.”
She added humorously that, in her imagination, the pair “go camping together” and “look at the stars.”
Hewson also recalled the surreal moment she had to perform an emotionally intense scene in front of the former president, describing it as the “biggest day” of her career.
“It was bonkers,” she said. “We had to entertain him.”
According to Hewson, Spielberg urged her to proceed with the shoot despite Obama’s presence, telling her, “We have to go shoot the scene now. He’s here to watch you act.”
The scene, she said, involved “screaming, and blood and sweat and tears,” making the experience even more surreal when Obama later complimented her performance.
“Afterwards he was like, ‘Oh Eve, where did you get that scream? Just stub your toe?’” she recalled.
Disclosure Day centers on a global race to uncover a government conspiracy involving extraterrestrial life and features a high-profile ensemble cast alongside Hewson.
