Katy Perry has revealed she will perform a song at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles that she has never played live before — teasing fans with the promise of a first-time performance at one of sport's biggest global stages.
The 41-year-old singer-songwriter disclosed in an interview with PEOPLE magazine at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival, offering a glimpse of what to expect when she takes to the stage at SoFi Stadium.
'It's very fitting for the ceremonial song'
Perry confirmed the track is not new material but is drawn from her existing catalogue, and said it suits the occasion perfectly. "It's very fitting for the ceremonial song that I get to sing," she said. "And it's not new. It's off of one of my records, and I'm very excited to perform it," she added.
Three ceremonies across three countries
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is making history as the first edition of the tournament since its inception in 1930 to host three separate opening ceremonies. The first took place on Thursday, at Banorte Stadium in Mexico City, with Shakira, Burna Boy — who performed the tournament's official song Dai Dai — Alejandro Fernández, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Belinda, Maná, J Balvin, and Los Ángeles Azules all taking the stage.
The second ceremony followed on Friday at BMO Field in Toronto, featuring performances from Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, William Prince, Nora Fatehi, Vegedream, Elyanna, Sanjoy, Jessie Reyez, and others.
Los Angeles line-up
The third and final ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will feature Perry alongside Rema, Future, Tyla, LISA, and Anitta. Dan + Shay have been confirmed to perform the United States national anthem, while Purahei Soul has been tapped to deliver the Paraguayan national anthem.
