Sofía Vergara opens up about lifelong bond with ‘Modern Family’ co-stars

Sofía Vergara has revealed that the Modern Family cast remains closely connected years after the long-running sitcom ended, saying the group still keeps in touch through an active chat that is often used.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with People, the actress reflected on her bond with former co-stars and admitted she still misses the cast, especially her on-screen husband Ed O'Neill.

“I miss Ed O’Neill so much,” Vergara, 53, said. “I mean, I miss everyone, but most of my scenes were always with Ed O’Neill. I spent most of the 11 years with him.”

Vergara said O’Neill played a significant role in her early acting career, describing him as a guiding presence during her time on the hit series.

“He was such a great friend, such a great pillar for me,” she said. “That was like my first really acting job. I couldn’t have done it without him.”

The actress added that although the show ended six years ago, the cast continues to maintain their relationships and occasionally reunite in person.

She noted that their group chat remains active, though conversations can sometimes become confusing due to delayed replies.

“We do and we use it a lot,” Vergara said. “Ed answers like five days later about something, and then we have no clue what he’s answering about. So it’s pretty cool.”

The cast of Modern Family — which ran for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020 — includes Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.

Vergara previously reunited with the ensemble in 2023, describing the moment as “very special” and noting it was the first time many of them had gathered in nearly four years.

“It felt like we just left the set,” she said at the time, emphasizing how quickly their on-screen family bond translates into real-life friendship.
