Love Island USA paid an on-air tribute to Executive Producer James Barker on Tuesday, following his sudden death in Fiji last week after an unexpected medical emergency, with the Peacock series dedicating a segment to him immediately after its recoupling episode.

The tribute appeared on screen following the recoupling episode, displaying the words "For James" alongside a series of photographs of Barker taken across the years. The segment closed with the message "We love you" on screen before the next episode was teased.
ITV America and Peacock confirmed Barker's death in a joint statement, describing the loss as one that had been "deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock."

The two companies issued a joint statement honouring Barker's memory and his contributions to the show. "He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him," the statement read. "We extend our heartfelt condolences to James' partner, family, friends, and colleagues."
From story producer to executive producer
Barker first joined Love Island USA in 2020 as a story producer and steadily built his career on the series over the following years, eventually rising to the role of Executive Producer — a position he had been working towards across the previous three seasons. His work on the show spanned both production and post-production, and included overseeing the series' soundtrack.
A career built across reality television
Barker began his television career in 2011 at Leftfield Pictures, where he worked as a producer on several well-known series including Counting Cars, Forged in Fire, and Pawn Stars. He later joined ITV America, where he went on to produce Queer Eye as well as multiple seasons of both Love Island USA and Love Island Games.
