X recovers after global outage disrupts thousands of users
Issues began around 9:00 a.m. ET
Elon Musk’s X largely recovered after a global outage temporarily disrupted access for thousands of users on Monday, according to outage tracker Downdetector.
Reuters reported the issues began around 9:00 a.m. ET, with users across multiple countries reporting problems accessing the platform, posting content and loading feeds.
At its peak, Downdetector recorded more than 25,000 outage reports in the United States alone before numbers quickly began to fall as services were restored. Reports dropped to around 620 later in the day.
Other regions were also affected, including Canada, where reports fell from more than 3,400 at peak levels to roughly 30, and the United Kingdom, which saw issues surge past 9,000 before easing significantly.
Downdetector, which tracks outages based on user-submitted reports from multiple sources, noted that actual user impact may vary from reported figures.
The platform, owned by SpaceX according to the report, did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the cause of the disruption.
The outage caused widespread complaints across social media as users experienced intermittent access before the platform stabilised and service returned to normal.
By later in the day, X was largely back online, with reports of issues declining sharply across all affected regions.
