Tom Holland says he received a personal call from Robert Downey Jr about his Marvel return

Tom Holland told Zendaya about Robert Downey Jr's Marvel return immediately after hearing the news

Tom Holland has revealed he told his wife Zendaya about Robert Downey Jr's return to the Marvel franchise as Doctor Doom immediately after receiving a personal phone call from the actor — making her one of the first people to know.

Holland, 30, best known for playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared the disclosure in an interview with Cinemania, saying he wasted no time passing the news on after getting off the call with Downey.

'Downey is coming back'

Holland told Cinemania that the moment he ended the call, he went straight to Zendaya. "Downey is coming back," he told her. He described the dynamic with Downey as relaxed and ongoing: "[Robert and I] just have casual catch-ups every now and then. He called and told me. It's really exciting," Holland said.

Marvel keeps him in the dark

The revelation is particularly notable given Holland's well-documented history of accidentally leaking Marvel secrets. He once inadvertently revealed an unreleased film poster on Instagram Live, exposing the official title and release date before Marvel had intended. The studio has since adjusted its approach with him accordingly.

"I don't know a lot about those movies by design. I have a reputation for spoiling certain things and I think the studio is keeping me from the juicy details when I do get to grace that set," Holland admitted.

Excited about what it means for Peter Parker

Despite being kept largely in the dark, Holland expressed genuine enthusiasm about Downey's Marvel comeback and what it could mean for his own character. "I am so curious what does that mean for Peter [Parker] and how does that work. It's really cool. I am really excited about whatever it is they are doing," he said.

Holland and Zendaya confirm marriage

The interview came days after Holland publicly confirmed his marriage to Zendaya in a separate interview with Esquire, ending months of speculation and widespread reports about the couple's relationship status.
