Milly Alcock reveals sweet Christopher Reeve tribute hidden in her 'Supergirl' costume
The actress describes her excitement over stepping into the role of Kara Zor-El in the upcoming film
Milly Alcock has revealed that her Supergirl costume carries a meaningful tribute to the late Christopher Reeve, a detail she said made the experience of joining the Superman universe even more special.
The 26-year-old actress, who plays Kara Zor-El in the upcoming film Supergirl, said she was “super excited” to discover that her character’s cape includes material inspired by Reeve’s iconic 1978 Superman costume.
Speaking on Extra, Alcock explained that the detail was carefully incorporated by the film’s costume designer, Anna, as a way of honouring the legacy of the franchise.
“It was super exciting to get to physically carry a piece of this franchise across to this film. It was such a beautiful piece of detail that Anna, our costume designer, put in,” she said.
Alcock added that she hopes audiences will connect with her version of the beloved superhero, describing the film as a fresh take on the character of Kara Zor-El.
“I hope they fall in love with Kara as much as I have with her,” she said, noting that the story aims to resonate with a wide range of viewers.
The House of the Dragon star also praised the visual effects team behind Krypto, Supergirl’s canine companion, calling their work “phenomenal” and highlighting how much the character came to life through movie magic.
She explained that much of her performance relied on imagination during filming, trusting the VFX team to bring the digital character into a believable form on screen.
Alcock also shared details of her preparation for the role, revealing she trained extensively with daily workouts and around two hours of stunt practice during pre-production.
She described the training process as challenging but enjoyable, saying she particularly loved learning how to perform action sequences safely and convincingly.
In a previous interview, Alcock admitted she was initially nervous about auditioning for the role but ultimately decided to take the leap, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity she couldn’t refuse.
