Captain Sully Sullenberger announces early stage Alzheimer's diagnosis

The legendary pilot who saved 155 lives shares a deeply personal update

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, the heroic pilot famous for the "Miracle on the Hudson," has announced he has been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's disease. Sullenberger, 75, was diagnosed in August of last year.

The retired pilot, who successfully landed a disabled passenger plane on the Hudson River in 2009, shared that he is at the beginning of a long journey. He noted that while it is currently in the early stages, the disease has begun to affect his daily life. Sullenberger explained that he sometimes struggles to recall names, forgets stories he has recently shared, and experiences disrupted sleep. His incredible life story was previously brought to the big screen in the 2016 biographical drama film Sully, starring Tom Hanks.
