Apple raises AppleCare Plus prices for Mac and iPad
AppleCare Plus subscription rates rose by 50 cents monthly for new Mac and iPad sign-ups
Apple has increased the cost of its AppleCare Plus subscription plans for new Mac and iPad customers. New subscribers will face a price rise of 50 cents on monthly payments and 5 dollars on annual plans.
Bloomberg first reported the changes to the warranty service, noting that existing subscribers will keep their current rates. Under the revised pricing structure, the monthly cost of an AppleCare Plus plan for a 13-inch MacBook Air has risen from 7.49 dollars to 7.99 dollars. The annual equivalent for the same laptop model has subsequently increased from 74.99 dollars to 79.99 dollars.
The decision to raise service rates follows a series of hardware price adjustments enacted by Apple. Last month, the technology company raised prices across its hardware line, including iPads, Macs, the Vision Pro, HomePod devices, and the Apple TV 4K. These hardware increases ranged from 30 dollars on the HomePod mini to 4,200 dollars on the M3 Ultra Mac Studio.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently addressed the financial pressures facing the company, attributing the higher costs to an ongoing global RAM shortage. Cook explained that the manufacturer had attempted to shield customers from escalating expenses, but declared the pricing situation unsustainable. Raising the rates of support services like AppleCare Plus is expected to help mitigate the financial impact of these higher component costs.
While Apple has not yet raised iPhone prices, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup could see a cost impact when it launches later this year. The current price adjustments only apply to new Mac and iPad AppleCare Plus sign-ups and do not affect active subscriptions. Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the updated subscription rates.
