Mac users get 1Password integration to secure Claude logins
The newly launched 1Password integration lets Claude access web accounts securely without seeing user passwords
Password management platform 1Password has launched a new macOS integration that allows Anthropic's artificial intelligence assistant, Claude, to complete web-based tasks requiring account logins without revealing passwords or two-factor authentication codes. The feature transitions a partnership initially announced in March 2026 into a functional tool designed for automating complex tasks, such as booking travel or administering online accounts, which previously required manual user intervention.
1Password reported that approved login credentials are transmitted through a secure channel and injected directly into target web pages. This design prevents the data from ever entering Claude's context, active memory, or the databases of Anthropic. Rather than granting permanent access to an entire vault, the integration provides specific access to single credentials when requested. Users must authorise each credential request using a biometric prompt, which automatically expires after a session ends.
The update also introduces Agentic Mode, a security feature that automatically locks down the 1Password vault the moment a compatible AI agent takes control of the browser. This mode restricts access solely to the credentials explicitly authorised for the active task. Users can monitor when Agentic Mode is running and retain the ability to cancel the session at any point. Additionally, 1Password performs a post-autofill check on web pages; if a form submission fails, the system automatically clears all autofilled values to prevent credentials from being exposed in broken forms.
The integration is currently available for Mac users subscribed to individual, family, and business plans. Operating the feature requires both the desktop applications and the corresponding browser extensions for 1Password and Claude. While support for payment cards and identity profiles is planned for future updates, the tool currently only supports standard login credentials.
