Seth Rogen recalls awkward reaction during romantic scene with Penélope Cruz
While promoting 'The Invite' Seth Rogen recalled feeling nervous filming opposite Penélope Cruz
Seth Rogen has revealed the unexpected way he reacted while filming an intimate scene with Penélope Cruz, admitting he couldn't stop saying "thank you" during the moment.
The actor shared the humorous behind-the-scenes story while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he discussed working with Cruz on their upcoming film The Invite.
Speaking with guest host Ike Barinholtz, Rogen explained that director Olivia Wilde encouraged the cast to improvise during one of the film's romantic scenes.
"What's actually funny in the scene is we were encouraged to improvise," Rogen said.
"There’s a scene where me and her are having a romantically charged moment, and it seems like we might hook up with one another, and I just kept saying, 'Thank you.'"
According to Rogen, Wilde quickly noticed the unusual response and questioned why he kept repeating the phrase.
"And Olivia Wilde, the director, was just like, 'Why? What are you doing? Why do you keep saying "Thank you"?'"
Rogen admitted he didn't have an explanation at the time.
"And I was like, 'I don't know. It's just what's coming out of my mouth.'"
The Superbad star joked that his reaction reflected exactly how he would behave in real life.
"All I have is gratitude," he said. "I would be apologetic and thankful. I'm sorry."
Rogen also confessed he felt some nerves filming the scene because Cruz is married to Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem.
"So, you're very worried about that," he joked before adding, "I don't think he views me as a legitimate threat in any way, shape or form."
In The Invite, Rogen plays Joe, a music teacher who finds himself unhappy in his marriage.
