Oklahoma influencer was fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide involving her estranged husband, authorities said. The deaths came less than two weeks after she publicly accused him of serious misconduct in a viral social media post.
Police say husband shot influencer before taking his own life
According to authorities, Sara Gilson, 43, and her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, 48, were found with gunshot wounds inside Gilson's home in Owasso on the night of July 23.
Investigators allege Duffey fatally shot Gilson before taking his own life.
A child who lived at the home reportedly called 911, prompting officers to respond to the residence.
Viral post preceded the fatal shooting
On July 11, Gilson shared a TikTok video in which she alleged her soon-to-be ex-husband had engaged in inappropriate conduct.
The post followed a popular social media trend in which users jokingly imagine appearing in a future documentary, but Gilson indicated her claims were serious.
Court records show protective orders
Court records show Gilson previously sought protective orders against Duffey in 2021, though those cases were later dismissed.
She filed another emergency protective order in June 2026, alleging Duffey had threatened suicide and possessed a firearm. The order required him to leave the family home and remain away from her. It was later extended through August.
Separate case involved allegations from a minor
Court records also show a separate protective order was filed on behalf of a teenage girl who had played on a youth basketball team coached by Duffey.
The filing included allegations of inappropriate behaviour and unwanted contact. PEOPLE reported that the allegations formed part of the court documents, but no criminal conviction related to those claims was mentioned.
Investigation continues
Owasso police are continuing to investigate the deaths.
Authorities have not announced any additional findings beyond describing the case as a suspected murder-suicide.
