Elle Fanning lost a major movie role because of social media?

Elle Fanning talked about how her very limited presence on social media once stole a major movie role from her.

During her appearance on Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday, the All The Bright Places actor said, "I didn't get a part once for something big."

"It might not have just been this reason, but this was all the feedback that I heard — because I didn't have enough Instagram followers at the time,” Fanning added.

“That was a little like, 'OK,' " said the 25-year-old while admitting that she "firmly" doesn't "believe" in "ever not getting a part" because of a social media follower count.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the Girl From Plainville actress also explained that doing a movie for a big studio such as Marvel, DC, or Star Wars is risky, as one never knows if it will be a flop or a hit.

"It does something for people, you know," said Fanning. "But you also don't know if they're gonna work sometimes, which is also scary."

For the unversed, Fanning had a private Instagram account for the longest time after becoming actress, however she now has almost 6.2 million followers on the social networking site.
