'Evil Dead Rise': Alyssa Sutherland recounts her first reaction on film’s script

Evil Dead Rise star Alyssa Sutherland recounted her reaction upon reading the script of the horror film for the first time.

Sutherland, who played the role of a single mother Ellie in the scary movie recalled what she felt and how she convinced herself to be a part of Evil Dead Rise after reading the script.

In an interview with the Insider the actress told, “I'm not a huge horror fan. I'm a very easy scare.”

She further continued, “but I loved that it was a female monster. It was so cruel and psychologically horrible, and I haven't seen many females on screen like that.”

“I feel like females that I have seen on screen like that, it's a more nuanced approach. And this was so overt and so violent, and psychotic” she added.

Sutherland also revealed that, “I was just so excited to do that because I don't read female characters like that. I was like, "Gimme the prosthetics. I don't care. I've been through worse!”

Evil Dead Rise was released on April 21, 2023. It is the fifth installment of the Evil Dead franchise, written and directed by Lee Cronin. The film has earned a whopping $100 million at the box office.
