Cristiano Ronaldo lifts Arab Club Champions Cup golden trophy after winning first title at Al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo wrote, 'Extremely proud to helped the team winning this important trophy for the 1st time'
Global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo brought Al-Nassr the first major victory and the golden trophy of the season after defeating Al-Hilal in the final of the King Salman Club Cup on Saturday.
The Portuguese star scored an extra-time winning goals as Al-Nassr lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup on August 12, 2023.
Ronaldo scored twice during the extra time to help Al-Nassr beat Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s Al Hilal. He also suffered a knee injury and was stretchered off during the second half of extra time.
Taking to his social media account, Ronaldo, popularly known as CR7, wrote, “Extremely proud to helped the team winning this important trophy for the 1st time.”
He added, “Thank you to everyone in the club that was involved in this great achievement and to my familly and friends for always being by my side! Fantastic support by our fans! This also belongs to you!”
Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, received widespread support and love from fans across the globe. Man United forward Alejandro Garnacho also sent a powerful message, writing, ‘inspiration’ along with a trophy emoticon.
During the match, Ronaldo also managed to surpass Gerd Muller’s record for the most recorded headed goals in the game’s history. He has now scored 145 headed goals, one more than the late legend Gerd Muller.
Ronaldo was also presented with the tournament's Golden Boot after the match. However, fans have been concerned about his knee injury ahead of Al-Nassr's opening Saudi Pro League game against Al Ettifaq on Monday.
Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to land a trophy for the club after his much-talked-about move to Al-Nassr.
While joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo also said that he is impressed with Al Nassr’s ambitions and believes that the club can become a major force in world football.
