Rachel Zegler has landed herself into hot waters after her past comments about the upcoming Snow White live-action movie resurfaced on the internet recently.

Zegler, who rose to fame after her outstanding performance in the 2021 film, West Side Story, will be playing the lead role in the upcoming Disney live-action remake of the classic cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The 22-year-old actress, however, divided the internet after a clip of her previous interview resurfaced online, in which she was seen expressing her distaste for the original storyline.

Now, the Shazam actress has dropped a subtle response to the backlash and criticism over her past remarks.

Taking to social media, the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes actress posted a cryptic message addressing the backlash.

Zegler, on August 12, 2023, simply tweeted, “I hope the world becomes kinder.” Several hours later, she posted another tweet, “I love you very much. Forever and ever. Remember to be kind. Treat each other with patience and empathy.”

“Remember that you are loved unconditionally, no matter your mistakes, no matter your misunderstandings. You deserve it. You deserve love. You deserve to live without fear. X,” she concluded.

Rachel Zegler's remarks on ‘Snow White’:

Rachel Zegler shared her controversial remarks about Snow White during her interview with Variety in September 2022. She said, “I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”

In an interview with Extra, Zegler explained her distaste on Snow White and the ‘modern edge’ live-action remake.

“The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird! So we didn’t do that this time,” she said.

Rachel Zegler starring Snow White is scheduled to release on March 22, 2024.
