'Oppenheimer' dethrones ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as highest-grossing biopic in history
Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' surpassed 'Bohemian Rhapsody' to become the highest-grossing biopic

Christopher Nolan’s historical epic biopic Oppenheimer achieved another milestone as it became the highest grossing biopic ever!
The Cillian Murphy starring film – based on the life of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was known as the ‘father of atomic bomb’ – made its historic opening run at the worldwide box office.
The film has now become the highest grossing biopic in history after surpassing the 2018 musical film, Bohemian Rhapsody.
It is pertinent to mention that the Oscar-nominated film Bohemian Rhapsody (starring Rami Malek) told the life story of the iconic musician Freddie Mercury and the career of the legendary music group, Queen.
According to the reports, Oppenheimer has earned $912.7 million worldwide at the moment, beating the previous record held by Bohemian Rhapsody, which collected $910.8 million in 2018.
Oppenheimer – opened in theatres on July 21, tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who served as the director of the Manhattan Project.
Besides Cillian Murphy (playing the eponymous Oppenheimer), the cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh and Rami Malek among others.
‘Oppenheimer’ and Bohemian Rhapsody’ star Rami Malek:
Hollywood star Rami Malek has turned out be the biggest winner in the race of the highest grossing biopics.
The Oscar winner appears in both films, delivering outstanding performances. Malek won his first Academy Award for playing the lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Rami Malek, however made a cameo appearance in Nolan’s Oppenheimer, but managed to leave a strong impact on the audiences.
Oppenheimer landed in theatres facing strong competition against Warner Bros.' Barbie, which has become the highest-grossing movie of the year.
The Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer also happened to be the first movie to have earned over $300 million and never hit the #1 spot on the weekend box office charts.
