The 17th Duke of Huéscar Fernando Fitz-James Stuart and his spouse, Sofía Palazuelo, find themselves in a quandary after the recent baptism of their second daughter in Seville.

In earlier weeks, Fernando, aged 33, and Sofia, aged 31, marked the baptism of their daughter with the name Sofía Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Ángela de la Cruz Micaela del Santísimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santísima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos, as reported by El Pais.

The infant was born in January and given a name as a tribute to Fernando's grandmother, the late Duchess of Alba, who was known for her extensive list of 19 names.

The duchess passed away in 2014, holding the Guinness World Record for the most titles acquired through both heredity and marriage, amassing a remarkable total of 57 titles.

These included five duchesseships, 14 Spanish grandee titles, and 18 marchioness titles, among others.

The name chosen for her great-granddaughter also pays homage to other family members and religious dedications.

Although the Spanish newspaper had good intentions of inclusivity, it was reported that the baby's name could not be legally registered with the Civil Registry due to the national limit on the name's length.

According to the regulations regarding naming and family names as outlined in the Boletín Oficial del Estado, also known as the Official State Gazette, “In the registration, the name given to the child will be expressed, although no more than one compound name may be recorded, nor more than two simple ones,”

In a similar scenario, the Duke and Duchess of Huéscar encountered a comparable situation after the arrival of their first child in 2021.

Fernando and Sofía christened their eldest daughter with the name Rosario Matilde Sofía Cayetana Dolores Teresa, which, although lengthy, is not quite as extensive as their younger daughter's name.

For the unversed, the future actions of the couple with regard to their daughter Sofía's royal name remain uncertain.
