Whitney Houston Night concludes at 'Dancing with the Stars' with glamorous performances
Whitney Houston Night with star-studded performances was a tribute to the legendary songstress
Whitney Houston Night, on Dancing with the Stars, season 32 episode 8, concluded with six out of seven contestants moving on to the next round.
The episode’s theme was about the seven competing couples dancing to hit songs by Whitney Houston, commemorating her decades long legacy of music.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Billy Porter, the self-acclaimed male Whitney Houston started off the night with the performance How Will I Know and then joined in the judgement panel.
First to compete on the floor, a Viennese waltz was performed by Harry Jowsey, to I Have Nothing from The Bodyguard. The judges had plenty to say about the performance deeming it as graceful but uninspiring.
"For such a big guy, you dance kind of small sometimes," said the judge, Derek Hough. "The seduction was at a 5, I need it to be at a 10," the Love Yourself singer added. They received a score 28 out of 40.
Taking the stage next was, Xochitl Gomez, who performed an entrancing tango routine to I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).
She performed with a sprained ankle. The judges were all-praise for her performance as judge Bruno Tonioli called it "dancing at it's best," Carrie Ann Inaba called it "flawless," and the judges awarded her with the first perfect score of the season. A solid 40 out of 40.
The second highest score of the night was secured by Ariana Madix, who impressed the judges as well as the crowd with her passionate paso doble.
She became the "Queen of the Night" and was left speechless after receiving a 39 out of 40.
Then came the "dance-off" round where Harry and Rylee vs. Alyson and Sasha took place with a head to head rumba. Harry was advised by the For What It’s Worth hit maker to try out more challenging steps and to not "behave like a tree trunk."
Upon announcement of results, it was revealed that Alyson and Sasha were the winning couple of the dance-off.
Next up was the side by side salsa between Barry & Peta and Jason & Daniella. The highlight of the night was Barry tearing off his hot pink shirt and wowing the crowd as well as judges, earning him a win.
And finally, a cha-cha battle between Xochitl & Val and Charity & Artem took place. The judges awarded Charity extra points as they saw more drive behind her moves.
A rather shocking decision was announced that Barry Williams was the one to be eliminated. As the couple said their goodbyes, the crowd erupted in shock and booed upon the unexpected decision.
"This has been the most wonderful experience of my life," said Barry. "Everyone here has made this a complete delight and I knew I won after the first night."
