Nick Viall speaks on challenges of Special Forces amid fiancée Natalie Joy's pregnancy
Nick Viall, Natalie Joy announced their engagement in January 2023, and are expecting their first baby
Nick Viall has opened up about the conflicting emotions he faced when deciding to participate in season 2 of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, just weeks after learning about his fiancée Natalie Joy's pregnancy.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the former Bachelorette contestant expressed a sense of guilt for leaving Joy as she navigated the challenges of pregnancy, particularly dealing with morning sickness.
Viall shared that the timing was difficult, given that Joy had just started experiencing morning sickness, which he referred to as 'all-day sickness' for her.
Despite feeling guilty about being away from her, Viall acknowledged Joy's support and encouragement for him to excel on the show.
"We had our first doctor's appointment coming up, so it was hard to be away from her. And thankfully, I had her support and I knew that she really wanted me to do well," he said.
However, the pregnancy added an extra layer of complexity to Viall's experience on Special Forces.
Moments of physical and mental exhaustion during the competition triggered thoughts of quitting, with Viall grappling with the internal conflict of needing to be home for his fiancée and the upcoming doctor's appointments.
What kept Viall going, according to him, was the thought of his future child watching the show someday and feeling proud of their parent's resilience.
He shared, "I just kept thinking like, 'Someday my daughter,' I didn't know the gender at that point, I just kept thinking like, 'Someday my child's going to be able to watch this, and I want to make them proud.'"
