Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has suggested Jenna Ortega and Jacob Elordi's  names  as "perfect" for the series reboot.

In Josh Horowitz's  Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hardwicke  marked the romantic series' 15th anniversary with a watchalong where she also highlighted thoughts on Twilight cast reboot.

When asked about a modern Bella Swan and Edward Cullen by the podcast host, the Thirteen director supported the idea of Jenna as Bella and Jacob as Edward.

Horowitz asked, "Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today? Is Jenna Ortega…?,” on which Hardwicke replied, “Oh yeah, that would be perfect."

She continued, saying, "I mean, he’s amazing, he probably would be Edward today, exactly."

When questioned who she would choose to fill Stewart's shoes, the Miss Bala director said  "I mean, of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega," adding that the Wednesday actress is "amazing."

Hardwicke also talked about what lies ahead for the Twilight series. According to Variety, there are reports about a Twilight reboot being developed by Lionsgate TV.

In addition to this, Hardwicke also mentioned that she hasn't "actually found out exactly what" the new adaptation will entail.

While telling that the writers' strike had most likely slowed the series' development, she said "I don’t know yet. Maybe they don’t even know."

She also expressed a desire to take the beloved saga in a completely new direction.

Hardwicke said, "For me, it would be fun to do Twilight in outer space, I would be ecstatic to do that, something totally different."
