Shane MacGowan has passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 65.

MacGowan's  wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, took to her Instagram account to upload a collaborative post with her, now, late husband and penned a lengthy heartfelt note sharing the news of his passing.

 “I don’t know how to say this so I am just going to say it. Shane who will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese,” she began.


Victoria continued in her caption, “I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him and to have had so many years of life and love and joy and fun and laughter and so many adventures.” 

Paying tribute to one of the greatest Irish singers, she further noted, “There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world."

Victoria concluded her heartfelt note, writing, "Thank you thank you thank you thank you for your presence in this world you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music."

About Shane MacGowan:

Shane MacGowan was an Irish singer and songwriter who produced many hit tracks and composing some of the most haunting ballads of the 1980s.

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, the Irish punk singer had been fired from his band, Pogues, after drowning in drug and alcohol addiction which led him to having slurred speech and on-stage meltdowns.

Shane MacGowan achievements:

McGowan has won the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award in 2018 and has sung the hit songs, Dirty Old Town, Song With No Name and A Pair of Brown Eyes.

He was also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Irish President, Michael D. Higgins.
