In an interview with You Magazine Pinkett Smith candidly shared that the public scandal at the Oscars, where Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in defense of her, served as a catalyst for positive changes in their marriage.
The incident led to a reset in their relationship and allowed them to confront and overcome underlying issues.
She said, “I call it the 'holy slap' now because so many positive things came after it.”
The Angel has Fallen actress also discussed her struggles with mental health, revealing that she contemplated suicide during a particularly challenging period in their marriage.
“I was thinking 'this suicide has to look like an accident so the children aren't traumatised,'” she said.
Pinkett Smith credited her transformation to plant therapy involving ‘ayahuasca’ a psychoactive drink known for its therapeutic properties.
This experience played a crucial role in helping her overcome suicidal thoughts and become the mother she aspired to be.
Despite living in separate homes, Pinkett Smith emphasized the strength of their family bond, stating that crises have a way of bringing them closer together.
