The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been revealed three days after his death.

Andre, who played a character called Capt. Raymond Holt in the comedy series, passed away at the age of 61 on Monday.

His rep confirmed to PEOPLE that Andre's death was due to lung cancer.

In 1998, he won his first Emmy win for playing Det. Frank Pemberton in Homicide.

The renowned actor got 11 Emmy nominations in his entire career.

Andre started his acting career in 1989, starring alongside Denzel Washington in Glory.

After Hollywood lost the talented actor earlier this week, condolences and tributes from Andre’s co-stars started pouring in.

Many celebrities including Terry Crews, David Simon, Chelsea Peretti, Joel McKinnon Miller, Dirk Blocker, Reed Diamond, Mike Royce and Josh Lucas honored the late actor.

Terry Crews posted a photo of Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star on his Instagram and penned a lengthy note.

He wrote, “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you.”

The star added, “Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man.”
