The Chicks founding members Laura Lynch has passed away at 65.

On Friday, Laura died in a fatal car crash after a head-on collision in West Texas.

Her cousin, Michael, confirmed the tragic news to CBS News.

The Chicks penned a tribute post for their late member and shared a throwback video of the group performing in its early days.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling togethe,” the caption read.

The post concluded, “Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this sad time.”

The Chicks members Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines signed the touching tribute.

Laura was replaced in the band by Maines after her departure in 1995.

The band recorded three independent albums with Laura as the lead vocalist before she left the group—Thank Heavens for Dale Evans (1990), Little Ol’ Cowgirl (1992) and Shouldn’t a Told You That (1993).

In a 1995, the late star had a candid conversation about The Chicks with the society columnist of the Dallas Morning News.

She revealed. “It can’t really be characterized as a resignation. There are three Dixie Chicks, and I’m only one. The group’s called the Dixie Chicks… When I was out there on the road having a bad day, it was awfully hard to be a Chick,” adding, “I have a 14-year-old daughter, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with her.”
