The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights has become the first song on Spotify to surpass the four billion streams mark, breaking yet another record.

As reported by Variety, a representative of Spotify confirmed that The Weeknd’s 2019 hit dethroned Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You as the all-time most-streamed song on the platform.

Spotify took to their official Instagram account to congratulate The Weeknd on achieving this milestone  with the caption, "Cheers to @theweeknd. Blinding Lights is the first song to reach 4 billion streams on Spotify."


The song supposedly generated around 20 million dollars alone, as it became the biggest song on the world’s biggest paid streaming service.

Blinding Lights is a song by the  singer and songwriter, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. It was released on November 29, 2019.

This song is the second single from the artist’s fourth album, After Hours and has sold more than 10 million copies in the US.

Shortly after its release, the song became a huge success as it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four non-consecutive weeks.

The song also holds the most number of weeks spent in the top 10 as well as top five ultimately becoming the first song to hold a spot in the top ten for an entire year.

Blinding Lights also broke the record for longest charting song on the Hot 100 of all time, by spending 90 weeks on the chart.

On November 23, 2021, the song was named the number-one song of all time in Billboard Hot 100 history.
