Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh sex scene in 'Oppenheimer' faced technical mishap mid filming
Florence Pugh recalled a mishap during the filming of her and Cillian Murphy’s sex scene in Oppenheimer, which garnered a huge controversy at the time of film’s release on July 21, 2023.
During a Universal panel discussion Pugh shared what exactly happened when a technical glitch occurred while filming the most intimate scene of Christopher Nolan’s Oscars nominated film.
“In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke,” Pugh revealed, adding, “No one knows this, but it did. Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing.”
Pugh went on to explain, “Cillian and I are in this room together. It’s a closed set, so we’re both holding our bodies like this,” wrapping her arms around herself.
The Don’t Worry Darling actress shared when someone came to check the camera she thought to herself, “this is my moment to learn,” and asked the camera technician, “So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera?”

“You just make your moments,” Pugh playfully confessed in front of the laughing crowd, adding, “I’m like, ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, buddy?'”
The actress while gushing over the Inception director’s production team said, “every person on this set was so knowledgeable and was so ready to make this kind of movie that there was no dull moment. It was all amazing. It felt like we were lucky to be there every second of the day.”
For the unversed, Pugh played Jean Tatlock in Oppenheimer, in which the titular character was played by The Peaky Blinders famed actor.
In the movie, Pugh’s character Jean was in a relationship with Oppenheimer during his marriage to Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, played by Emily Blunt.
