Sandra Milo, a renowned Italian actor passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at her Rome home. She was 90 years old.

As reported by Variety, the news of Milo’s death was announced via social media by her daughters, Debora and Azzurra, and son Ciro, who revealed that the actress had died in her sleep.

The now-deceased actress was known for her memorable roles in Federico Fellini’s and Juliet of the Spirits.

Lucia Borgonzoni, the Italian deputy culture minister, mourned Milo’s passing and deemed her as a “protagonist of Italian cinema … a great, talented artist with an overwhelming charisma” and “the muse of great directors such as Federico Fellini who won the hearts of millions of Italians.”

Sandra Milo, who worked in several genres of the entertainment industry, made her big screen debut back in 1955.

She starred alongside the famous actor, Alberto Sordi in Antonio Pietrangeli’s Lo Scapolo ( which translates into The Bachelor).

An accredited comedy she worked in is titled, Totò in the Moon (Totò Nella Luna), which is one of the several films that she made with the iconic Italian comedian known as Totò.

Back in 1959, she scored a role in one of Roberto Rossellinis’ films, titled, Il Generale Della Rovere. The duo continued their collaboration in the 1961 drama Vanina Vanini.

Milo’s breakthrough in the entertainment industry was thanks to the film, , in which she portrayed the role of Carla, the lover of director, Guido Anselmi, who was played by the actor, Marcello Mastroianni.

The actress also appeared in Giuliet of the Spirits, playing the role of an uninhibited femme fatale. 

Then, in 2021, Milo received the David di Donatello Lifetime Achievement Award, the country’s top film prize.
